Rebecca Fowler Topham and Laura Price spent the 14 May enjoying the second event in the Questars Adventure Racing Series, held around Pershore, Worcestershire. The two women enjoyed a great day of biking, running and kayaking. Achieving their best result to date – finishing in 05:55:03 with 615 points and no penalties, the women were delighted to place third in the competitive Ladies Masters category – Laura said they were “thrilled” with the result courtesy of “top navigation by Rebecca”.
Laura Price and Rebecca Topham (the ‘Lost Soles’ lite) travelled to Dorset on Saturday 19 March for the first of this year’s Questars adventure races. The aim is to collect the most points through a combination of biking, running and kayaking, avoid penalties and get back to the finish within 6 hours. A couple of years ago the Dursley team, which included Kate Browning, surprised themselves by winning the Novice series easily. But the move up to Masters racing was a huge step up, and the women did relatively badly in their first Masters race. This time they knew they had to be focused and efficient with their planning and execution. They had a simple and conservative plan: maximising time on the bike, collecting a few key run points, and then kayaking at the end of the day. Pleasingly, they managed to get more points than anticipated on all sections of the race, and finished in 5 h 55 min. Although they only managed 6th place in the Ladies Masters race, they were not too far off the top three scores and so are looking to improve on this placing in the next race, which is in May.
