Sunday 23 August saw three of Dursley Running Club’s triathletes, Ray Williams, Rob Woodward and Andy Kilby, in action at the Cotswold Classic Triathlon.
The event takes in a 1.9 m swim followed by a 90 km bike course and finishing with a half marathon. Ray Williams was first out of the water for Dursley in just over 33 min, with Rob Woodward hot on his tail under 1½ min behind. Andy Kilby was out in 40.22, almost 2 min quicker than his 2014 swim, setting the tone for the rest of the event. Ray was again just slightly quicker on the bike, extending his lead on Woodward by 2 min, although a sluggish transition saw him lose 45 s of this lead. Once into the run, Ray was only going to extend his advantage, especially as Rob had been nursing a sore calf in the 2 weeks running up to the event. As the heavens opened Ray continued to pull away, eventually finishing almost a quarter of an hour in front, completing the course in just over 5 h. Rob was rewarded for his efforts with a first in his category, whilst Andy could be satisfied with improvement in his times across all disciplines.
