Mark Brasier, winner of best newcomer in the 2014 club awards, tested himself over the marathon distance in Amsterdam on Sunday 19 October.

Starting with a sensible pace of around 7.30 min miles over the first 5 km, Mark then picked up the pace, reaching the half marathon point in 1 h 38. While this was some way off his PB for this distance, it showed sensible pacing, given he had to run the same distance again. He maintained his steady pace to 30 km, when fatigue finally set in and he slowed 20 min. Mark’s verdict on the event “who would have thought a country famous for being flat could have so many hills!”

Result: Mark Brasier 1582nd (MV40 317th) 03:20:44.
