Gloucester 20 mile Road race took place on Sunday 2nd of March, seen as an ideal London marathon preparation race, it attracted over 530 runners. Bourton's Mike Smith won in 1:53:23. Trevor Lewis continued his build up for the London marathon with another 1st V60 performance to match his Dozen result, a great run finishing in 66th place in 2:17:32.
Richard Bromley also has a good run, 117th in 2:26:56. Graeme Hawkins struggled manfully round the course. Having had Richard cruise past him, he was by all accounts was getting worried about being caught by Ray Williams and Andy Kilby. Ray and Andy had cycled 25 miles before getting to the race, as training for an Ironman event (2.4 Miles 112 Mile bike ride and 26.2 mile run). Graeme managed to hold them off with a 1.32.37 (he denies stopping for a tea break). Andy pipped Ray by 22 seconds with a 2.46.31. Apparently if someone had offered to take their bikes home they were ready to swim down the canal, being the enthusiatsic tri-atheletes that they are!
Unfortunately no comment as yet from Mr Lewis on his satisfaction with his run, no doubt it was the heavy training schedule for London that kept him away from the following Tuedsay night's club run. Most of Graemes comments could not be published!
Gwent Cross Country League continued at Blaise Castle around a 9600m course. Kevin Jackson was 85th in 40.02 and Roly Hobbs 179th in 47:41
In the Gloucester Leage Cross Country standings forthe 2007/2008 season Nick Langridge took silver in the V55 class and Graeme Hawkins the bronze.
