Race  3 Results:

The Summer holidays saw a “skinny” field of a mere 47 runners. A pleasant, if a tad warm, evening, welcomed back Alice Smith and Keely Spate after along break for both. New member Carolyn Thraves received the customary positive handicap to get up at the sharp end of the race.

Others back after a long sojourn Alice Smith, Emma Richards and Keely Spate all had to make do with their most recent PB to give them their position on the start line.  Cara Zoglowek kicked off proceedings, with Fred giving her an extra 31 second head start, unfortunately we all noticed! Damian Lia had a mere 4 minutes to wait before being set off to catch Cara. Rachel Goatman brought her music to the start line and engaged in some kick boxing to keep herself amused before getting on with her run. The start was well organised with runners being close to the start line ready to be set off. Just over 42 minutes later Damien was the first to turn the corner onto the finishing straight putting in a big effort over the final meters to knock around 5 minutes of his previous best RESULT! He will be disappearing down the start list in September! There was then around a minute before Caroly Thraves crossed the line and another minute before Rachael Goatman finished. It was then a constant stream of runners coming in suggesting that the handicap by and large is working. It was a good night for some of the more experienced runners who worked hard to get themselves into the top of the results sheet. Dave Wood finishing 10th , Dave Saunders 13th and Tony Wooldridge 15th. Julia Newman continued her steady progress  in accumulating  a low score with 12th place, only to be outdone on points so far by Holly Gardner, fastest woman on the night and  who after three races has accrued 24 points to Julia’s 32. Kim Bird who has run very consistently so far was not far behind Holly on time.

The points are very close and a number of runners with only two races under their belts are not be discounted Megan Wren and Rachael Goatman leading the chasing pack. In the men’s section Darren Richards Richard Pitts and Mark Western occupy the top three spots  having all run three races, with Dave Saunders, Neil Hodgson and Paul Dunn all in strong position after 2 races. There are a number of runnesr who only have to put in a good final run and they will be in a with a shout. It was great to see the effort made with chests heaving and runnners gasping for air as they walked the funnel! It's good for you you know!

Start times will be adjusted again for the final event in September.

After the final event Prizes awarded will be awrded after a buffet super. The prizes are points based lowest score best of three races, best three women best three men and an overall winner.

Many thanks to all those assisted today with Course layout, shepherding of runners , timekeeping, number crunching filming and video analysis!

RACE 2 RESULTS

The second in Dursley Running Club’s members-only handicap series took place on Tuesday 21 July at Hamfields Leisure Centre. Runners are handicapped according to previous 5K times, with the aim that everyone should be racing at the end to cross the line first. Newer runner Cara Zoglowek was first home on Tuesday, with more than 1 min separating her from the next home, Neil Hodgson, who posted the fastest actual time of the night. Kim Bird was the fastest women, pipping Rebecca Topham by a mere 3 s.

RACE 1 RESULTS

A fantastic turn out of 70 runners took advantage of a beautiful summers evening to compete in the first race in the handicap series. The runners were cooled by a brisk North-Westerley wind. With so many entrants it was not overly surprising that there was a little confusion on the form of the start times and this meant 5 runners got let off early! They took advantage of this and led the race home.

Megan Warren, Sara Eden, Charlotte Barnes, were the first three over the line and as they told Dave Durden, no-one can take that away from them. They were followed over by fellow escapees Emma Richards, Kath Redmond, Jane Malpass and Damian Lai. The provisional results are shown below, and they have been adjusted for the correct handicaps. This means that without the early escape Debi Jones would have been first across the line with Kevin  Higgins second and new member on the night Holly Gardner third. Rebecca Topham and Kim Bird were joint fastest women and Brad fastest man, even with his shirt on.

There were a host of great efforts with runners piling over the line, with video evidence showing some fine form, sockets to pockets or vice versa. The sprinting for places meant that the timekeepers struggled to keep up. Fortunately Charlotte Pitts, Richard's daughter was on hand and videoed the finishes so timings have been taken off this and some corrections on finishing  have been made. Clearly a few naughty people passed others by in the funnel! Thank you to Mark Waller, Karl Rust and Mel Williams for assisting with the start and finish and off course Ray for organising the numbers and setting out the course etc.. etc...

REMEMBER PLEASE KEEP YOUR NUMBER AND BRING IT WHEN YOU DO YOU COME TO THE REST OF THE SERIES.

Any queries Facebook message or email Ray Williams or Dave Durden will now be dealt with on next race in series

NB NO RUNS FROM CLUB

Series Info:

On the 2nd Tuesday of the Months of June, July, August and September the club will meet at Hamfield's Leisure, Berkeley Power Station for the annual Club Handicap Series. The Handicap Series dates are: 9 June; 14 July; 11 Aug; and 8 Sept

An exclusive “members only” event.

YOU NEED TO HAVE ENTERED A TIME via: http://goo.gl/forms/hSQNRc4xHl

The club handicap series is one lap of the Berkeley 10K course just over 5K. The race has a staggered start, the slower runners go off first and the faster runners start last. This means that everyone finishes together – well that is the theory!

The starting time for each runner is calculated according to past performance.

If you have not already done so please let Ray Williams know your times via e-mail This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or phone 01453 811741. He needs to know your  5km, 4 mile or 10km seasons best, or your estimated minute per mile pace.

Be at Hamfield's Leisure  for 6.15 for a 6.30 on the dot start, obviously the quicker runners will not be off for a while after that! If you need a lift try running club facebook page and if this fails have a chat at Club night.

For those not inclined to race Roger is looking to organise a group so that everyone can sample the atmosphere; you have to be there to see the incredulity on some runners faces as Ray announces their handicap! Trevor Lewis and Dave Halford seem routinely exercised on this point, we'll have to see what times Ray bestows on them in 2014! Roger will then lead a gentle jog around all or part of course depending on the group for those who want to come and not race.

Whilst Dave Durden and others sweat over getting the results out for an impatient Mr Halford ;-) , no doubt working out his handicap frustrations, there is an opportunity to pop into the bar and have lemonade, hot chocolate or even a shandy.

Runners have to race three events to be complete series. Their  race position giving points, the lower the better. Best three positions count, with first second and third prizes for men and women and an overall winner.

NB: After the last race we have a prize giving with food & skittles a deadly game of killer
