June's racing kicked off for Dursley Runners with a Duathalon on Wednesday the 03rd results yet to come in so the headlines are for the 9 Dursley runners who ran this Thursday in Severn ACs Fitness 4 Miler. the hot conditions did not put off a record entry and a faint breeze gave a little respite from the heat. After Mel William's impressive PB at Berkeley and 1st LV45 hopes were high for further good performances.
This came in the form of John Burt's 10th place with a 25.16 PB. All the Dursley Runners were cheered on by Mouse and Fred. After tracking down the early leader Dave Durden was passed by Chris Hale of CLC Striders just before the turn. He hitched a lift with a Stroud runner at almost three miles, then opening it up with just under a half mile he tried to close the gap, he could not, coming in second 8 seconds behind the winner in 24.25. Neil Parry had John Burt worried initially but John passed him with just over a mile to go, John was worried enough to look over his shoulder before the finish (as he knows how sneaky some runners are, nipping by right at the end!!!!, but was he safe enough in the end.
It was great to see John Trafford running. John is a life time member of the club has recieved a kidney (if my sources are correct) transplant and advised us that he is one of the few runners who has to be on drugs to run! Good luck to John who is off to run in the Transplant Games. Ray produced a good run having raced in a Duatholon the day before with Mel just outside a PB, after her fantastic run at Berkeley by the 1st LV45 and a PB in 46.13.
After an enjoyable run everyone retired into the pilot for a drink and some a meal. A nice socialble end to a good run. So Don't be shy come along to the next event, 1st thursday of the month May to Spetember only £2 entry.
