A slightly more select group of Dursley Runners made it to the 4th race in the Pilot series at the begining of August. Darren Kitchen was the first runner home from Dursley knocking over a minute off his previous time. Alice continued to knock time off and has knocked 11 minutes off her first pilot outing in May this year. Jerry got in just ahaed of Roly with Zoe completing the Fowler Sandwich.

Race 3

9 Dursley runners took part in this weeks Severn AC Pilot 4 miler, the third in the series. The runners didn't have to worry about over heating with the showers and a breeze keeping them cool, Dave wood turned up with out his new racing flats, saying he didn't want to get them wet!

The rest just made up the usual runners excuses for what was about to come, Darren Kitchen was waiting for his mate Ian (not Hobbs!) to turn up, he never made the start line, but was later found in the pub with a pint of ale in his hand, so say he couldn't find the Pilot!

Dave Wood was 1st home improving markedly on his previous run despite the footwear, he was followed very closely by Mark Waller. Dave Halford, no doubt tired after his recent nuptuals, just about kept Rich Clarke at bay with the ever slowing John Delafield just behind him. Darren who was paced by Ray for 3.5 miles of the race, then left him standing to try and chase John down, Ray came in some 30 seconds later followed by Sue who started like a train but slowed on the return with Rolly just behind her.Well done to all and another good club turn out for this most enjoyable of events.

Dave Wood      25.48

Mark Waller      26.14

Dave Halford      28.21

Rich Clarke       28.43

John Delafield    29.05

Darren Kitchen   29.11

Ray Williams     29.43

Sue Peachy       30.29

Rolly Hobbs       31.09

Thanks for Results and commentary from Ray Williams.

Race 2

Another good turn out for the Pilot series with 9 Dursley runners out of the 124 entrants on the night. A stiff breeze faced the runners at the start, along with the unwelcome news that the turn had been incorrectly placed on the first race making it short of the four miles.

This didn't deter Alice Lewis who stormed through over 4 minutes quicker than the first race, just shows what a bit of speed work can do!  John Delafield managed to squeeze 7 seconds off  his previous time. Paul Wellings was the first Dursley Runner home and felt that given the change of distance that his run was on a par with the first. Dave Wood was not as close to Paul this time around, despite the seriously orange  racing flats!

Paul Wellings             24:56         7th

Dave Wood                26:22         16th

Dave Halford               27:57        24th

John Delafield             28:43        27th

Chris Ashworth           28:53        30th

Rich Clark                  29:14        35th

John Spicer                33:11        70th

Liz Davis                    34:04        82nd

Steve Peers               34:16         85th

Alice Lewis                40:20         116th

24 finishers

Many thanks to Dave Halford for the results

Race 1 May

There was a fantastic turnout from Dursley and District at Severn ACs Fitness Run. The run to encourage aspirant runners saw 14 runners from the club make the journey to Hardwicke in Gloucester. Weather conditions were fair, warm with little wind, runners not having to run in the heat of recent weeks. The good turn out guaranteed strong competition between club members, boding well for the club handicap series later in the year. Paul Wellings having got his excuses in earlier in the week was still the first runner home despite still being tired from the London Marathon, he was closely followed in by Dave Wood and Neil Parry. Both Paul and Dave are seeking to break the 24 minute barrier this year, so both had a decent start, and further speed work should get them closer. Dave was first MV45 home but sadly no biscuits are on offer at the pilot, he will have to travel to Sandhurst for such rewards. Neil, whilst hampered by the fact a dog wasn’t pulling him along, recorded a decent time. Mark Weller in his run up to the San Diego Half Marathon showed his good form running a big PB knocking SIX minutes off his previous best.

A couple of good races developed down the order with Darren Brown and John Burt having a real tussle, John Delafield, Roly Hobbs, and Sue Peachy all coming in on each other heels.  The race is becoming more and more popular and 144 runners took part. 6 Runners broke the 24 minute barrier and are barred from future races.

9 Dursley runners took part in this weeks 4 miler, the third in the series. There was no need to worry about being too hot on the night, Dave Wood turning up without his new racing flats, saying he didn't want to get them wet!
