The final Club handicap took place on the 28th of September, and despite the ominous looking clouds 28 competitors turned up in the hope that the handicap would favour them. Gary Hughes showed everyone how it should be done cruising past all the field to come in first, having started last, in a fantastic time of 18:35.  Rachel Carter pipped Mike Trafford to second place by a mere 5 seconds, securing her overall victory in the handicap series.

Race four 28th September

The race saw some rivalries renewed Dave Durden out for his first comepetitive  since July run was as pleased as punch to beat Kevin Kevin Jackson and is hoping this run of luck will continue into the Oldbury 10 and Stroud Half. John Spicer managed to pip Lesley Smee by just one second although Lesley finished in front on the night. The event included good runs for Dave Halford, Paul Wellings and John Dellafield who all ran seasons or personal bests on the night

The club celebrated an excellently organised series with a meal followed by the presentations, with Haydon and Rachel receiving silverware for their hard work in their respective categories, Rachel also winning a bottle of Champagne as overall winner. Moira Woodward will be hoping this slows Rachel down a little! Ray Williams and his helpers received warm applause and many thanks for their hard work and brilliant organisation of the four events. The handicapping becoming increasingly accurate as was demonstrated by the fact that only a minute and a half separated the first runner home to the 19th. The night was finished off with a very competitive game of killer in the skittles alley.

Race Three 31st of August

Another good turn out on a lovely sunny evening. Well lovely for sitting outside the Salutation Inn and watching the runners go by! By all accounts it was rather warm.

The winner was Kevin Blackney closely followed by Tony Wooldridge with Kim Stephenson 3rd and 1st lady home(correction from First edition!!) The Race saw a return to the action for Garry Hughes, running the quickest time of the night. Rebecca Topham was quickest Lady one place ahed of Kim Stevenson on time. A return to form for Rachel Carter who was the second lady in saw her again embroilled in a battle with Moira Woodward. Although Moira tried the Kenyan tactic of changing pace she could not drop Rachel who nipped passed at the end. Tony Wooldridge was making serious in-roads into the runners in front coming into Berkeley suggesting his handicap might need some adjusting!!

Race Two 24th of August

The second race welcomed back Rich Clarke, who was rewarded with a third place, with Chris Gaze breathing down his neck finishing in 21 dead with the fastest time of the night, knocking a minute and 20 seconds of his previous run.  Richard Bromley was able to run without worrying about winning due to a dubious handicap and saw a three minute improvement as a result! Haydon Smith also saw a big improvement knocking almost 45 seconds off his previous time, and Dave Wood also continued to improve obviously taking to road running in his old age! Nicky Percivall and Avril were the two ladies who improved their times on the night with Nicky knocking 3 mins and 20 off her PB!

Race One 20th July

The first club handicap took place on the Tuesday 20th of July, using one lap of the Berkely 10K course, a distance of around about 3.7 Miles, an excellent field turned out with just under 30 club members taking part.

Dursleys latest recruit Nicky led the way, having been given relevent tips by her mentor Roger Newman, with Moira Woodward and Rachel Carter setting off second and third. Both started off steady, Moira reaching the Salutation with a slender lead, Rachel steadily pulling in Moira until she caught her on at Berkeley. Moira did her best to distract Rachel by taking her up into the town as opposed to down the passage, and apparently trying to demotivate her by suggesting the detour might lead to disqualification (shame on you Moira!).

There was then quite gap before the next runners got to Berkeley. Richard Bromley looking very comfortable as he turned towards the power station. A radical reassessment of Richard's handicap is likely at the next event. Trevor Lewis showed there's still life in the old legs coming in first male. Dave Halford managed to kick past Barry Topham but could not muster enough to beat the better half of the Topham running duo, with Rebecca saving enough to see him off at the end. Chris Gaze and Kevin Jackson battled it out on the last mile and a half with Dave Wood taking a back seat. Roly Hobbs produced a typically battling performance after a 12 hour shift at work leaving it to Tony Wooldridge to nurse a injury, he sustained at the weekend, around the course to be last runner in, smiling as ever! (but don't expect that to alter the handicap Tony!!)

After the event runners awarded themselves with a well deserved drink.
