2017

The icing on the weekends cake for DRC was Woodchester Manor with a strong turnout from the club’s quicker runners James Everett, Mike Crompton and Tim Ennis forming a strong team as the first three home counted

backing them up in case of emergency were Mark Brasier, Dave Durden, Grebbitt and possibly Nigel Sankey, although he is the first to admit off-road is not his thing! Also running were Alice Lewis, Paul Lewington and Erica Fuller. A fast start saw a Cheltenham Harrier disappearing off into the distance with Mike, James and Tim struggling to keep in contact and hoping that the hills would take their toll. This was not to be and James finished second for DRC four minutes down. He was under the weather, as a result of overtraining! Whilst he said he did not think he could have beaten the Harrier, in top form he felt he could have been closer. However given he was not on top form second place was impressive and strong runs from Mike and Tim bode well for a senior men’s Cross Country team with a number of other senior runners showing good form off road at the moment. Individual results pending! Again thanks to the DRC supporters.

 2016

A slightly later start saw 14 DRC athletes on the start line for Stroud AC’s Woodchester Park multi-terrain race in decent weather conditions. I t is an extremely undulating course is challenging with two severe hills to test the runners on the final mile and a half. Mike Crompton disappeared off into the distance leaving Braddan Johnson, Kevin Jackson and Dave Wood in the initial battle for second DRC runner. Dave Durden’s spent most of the race catching the ground lost to Johnson, Jackson and Wood on the downhill. Crompton ran a strong race ahead of the chasing DRC pack, averaging just over 7 minute miles and was 3rd overall, just a few seconds off second spot. Behind Crompton Johnson’s final descent took him past Durden to be second DRC runner home. Dursley’s female athletes ran well with Margaret Johnson first FV50, Alice Lewis first FV55 and Jackie Creed third FV45, delivering the woman’s team prize to DRC. Paul Lewington ran an impressive race finishing  5th MV60 having run a PB at parkrun the previous day, with Durden 3rd MV50-59. Pete Brown was the club’s lantern rouge and was an impressive 3rd MV65.

.A beautiful Autumnal Sunday morning saw just fewer than 100 athletes competing in the Woodchester Park off road event on the next day. The event is run over a challenging 8 miles and them some more. The twelve Dursley Running Club athletes in the field produced a host of excellent performances, with a number returning from injury doing both themselves and the club proud. The club was home by Mike Compton placing 9th overall in just over 55 minutes, Tony Wooldridge produced an excellent run to finish just over 4 minutes behind Compton placing 1st MV60 beating Nick Langridge a second claim Dursley member who was running for Thornbury RC on the day. This was just the start of a number of high age category placings for Dursley, Kevin Jackson was next in pacing 2nd in his category being beaten by the Stroud Athlete Lee Christmas who has recently shown a return form. 2014

Five of the more traditionally minded Dursley Club runners were to be found at Woodchester Park on 7 September. Kevin Jackson demonstrated that experience can allow the older runner to keep ahead of the younger pack, holding off Brad Johnson for the second year in a row to be the first Dursley runner home and also be the first MV50 over the line; Johnson did manage to cut the deficit from 2013.Behind these two, the effervescent Alice Lewis, making her first appearance in the race, turned in another good performance claiming the first FV55 placing. Chris Young and Erica Fuller both ran steady races over the challenging 8 mile course, Fuller returning to racing after some enforced time off over the summer. The race was won by Stroud’s Lee Rankin in a time of 00:50:31 just 5 seconds ahead of Tom Bloodworth.

Results: Kevin Jackson 10th 00:57:38 (1stMV50); Braddan Johnson 00:57:52;Alice Lewis 35th 01:10:31; Chris Young 46th 01:17:48; Erica Fuller 56th 01:24:52

2013

Five Dursley runners on the start line this year.

The testing course is approximately 8 miles in length over woodland trails and includes a challenging climb. . As for the last few years Kevin Jackson was first home for Dursley, and despite having another year ran the course 2 seconds faster than in 2012. A host of Johnsons also ran with Brad first of the J's home clearly the race was not long enough for home to wam up an track Kevin down, another 50 or 60 miles and Kevin would have been a distant speck. Behind Brad Margaret had had a good run with Rachel and Erica (or possibly Erics Finnish cousin Erka? see results sheet) running well over a challenging course. Dan Robinson clearly now enjoying the off road won in a time of 49:46

Kevin Jackson        9th  57:24 (3rd MV50);

Brad Johnson        16th 59:38;

2012

The annual jaunt to Woodchester Park, welcoming in the Autumn, saw a slightly smaller  entry from the club with just four runners making the short journey.   As ever Kevin Jackson ran well moving up one place in the overall standings from 2011, coming first in his category in yet another race. Behind him was Mark Waller also moving up one placing from last years event. Kevin increased the gap significantly between himself and Mark, in 2011 they were seperated by just a minute. Kim Bird returned after a years break finishing ahead of Zoe Johnson both having good runs over the challneging terrain.

Kevin Jackson  57:26   7th (1st MV50)

Mark Waller      60:20  12th

Kim Bird           71:53    51st

Zoe Johnson    80:23   74th

2011

A bright sunny morning greeted the 147 entrants to the Woodchester Park 8 organised by Stroud District Athletic Club, seven Dursley Runners made the short trip up Crawley Hill. They were led home by Kevin Jackson in the time of 56:15 coming 12th overall and 3rd MV50. Graenme Hawkins was 2nd MV60 although this probably didn't make up for being beaten by nick Langridge running for Thornbury. Trevor Lewis made a rare outing, so rare in fact he is down as a senior male on the results, clearly no-one recognised him!
