Congratulations to all who took part in the 2010 Dursley Dozen.

A beautiful day greeted the particpants in this years Dozen. Saturday evening's rain making an otherwise dry course slightly more slippery. We hope that all runners and supporters enjoyed not only the event, scenery and also the clubs hospitality. Many thanks to all the Marshalls, cake bakers, course markers administrators and of course the race organisers.
The race started briskly despite the steepness of the initial section, the leading runners missing the first left turn (tell tails were to be seen) but a swift shout brought them back onto route. The front runners did not let this hamper them and had established a clear lead by half way.
Paul Fernandez of Abingdon Amblers 01:15:18 was the winner almost two minutes ahead of Hugh Aggleton or Cardiff Harlequins with Alec Woods Team Bath coming 3rd (first vet and first MV45).
Georgia Wood continued to make it a good day for Team bath coming in first woman in 01:26:54, with Helen Fines of Calder Valley Fell Runners making good use of those fell running skills to come in second in 01:28:41 (first LV35) followed into 3rd place by Clare Prosser of Wells City Harriers.
Despite the organisational demands of running the event Dursley fielded ten runners. Dave Durden and Kevin Jackson had another good tussle, making a change Kevin had Dave in his sights for the whole race, entering the precipice neck and neck. Who knows what might have happened if Kevin hadn’t ambled (his words) around the Gwent Cross Country League on Saturday. With Kevin keeping him honest Dave was able to take advantage of the good conditions to break and hour and a half. Dave Wood was again knocking at the door behind them coming in just over 01:30. A few novice runners tackled the event this year and produced excellent runs. Hayden Smith with a fantastic 01:34:01 (he said he was just going to amble round!!!) and in road shoes. Another first timer, Rebecca Topham declared she found in “quite enjoyable” after finishing in 01;47:59. Tony Freer did not quite share these sentiments, by all accounts he started a little briskly and had to hang on in there, he put in a fearsome sprint at the end to beat his nearest competitor, leaving himself completely spent. Alice Lewis was the clubs “Lanterne Rouge” putting the snow covered golf course runs to good use with a a fine 02:21:57
