As the start of their festive season events Severn AC hosted the Christmas XC handicap at Plock Court on Saturday the 19th. Terry Haines had the unenviable task of allocating the handicaps, but the fact that all the runners were in the final third of the race together was testiment to a job well done.
The event was won by Dursley Runner Dave Durden, catching the 2nd placed runner 3/4 into the third lap he had to wait to the same point on the fourth lap before he caught the then leader. Conscious that some very classy runners were behind him he continued with his effort all the way to the line finisnhing in 29:50. Chris Ashworth also ran, having raced on Thursday at Weston (but no surprise there!) and came in first V55.
Another really good local race form Severn AC, Plock Court may not be the most attractive course but this is a well run and friendly event, and as Club members will know there's nothing quite like a handicap for motivating all runners, and of course the prospect of biscuits as prizes, spiced up this year with a bottle of booze, courtesy (along with the other prizes) of Severn AC member John Holland. Check out Severn ACs Web site for details of Christmas races: the Christmas Day three miler, Boxing Day 4 Miler (actually day after Boxing Day just to confuse you) and then New Years five miler. get you nice and warmed up for the new season.
